Training on Extinguishing Equipment
The 2017 edition
NFPA Standard number 96 for the Ventilation Control and Fire
Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations references the training
requirements in section 11.1
Section 11.1.4 states
Instructions shall be provided to new employees on hiring and to all
employees semi-annually on the use of portable fire extinguishers
and the manual actuation of the fire extinguishing system. This
online training will meet the requirements of 11.1.4
Section 11.1.4.2
states Records of compliance with 11.1.4 shall be maintained and
shall be available to the authority having jurisdiction. On
completion of this online training the individual will take a 10
question test and on successfully completing the test will be issued
a certificate that meets the requirements of 11.1.4.2
Section 11.1.4.3
states Instructions for manually operating the fire
extinguishing system shall be posted conspicuously in the kitchen
and shall be reviewed with employees by the management. This online
training will identify the different types of manual operation of
the fire extinguishing system and will demonstrate the procedures to
operate the manual release for the fire extinguishing system.
